Todd Akin: Don't Go Away Mad...Just Go Away

Todd Akin...another idiotic Republican trying to expound on social issues when the election is all about the economy and repealing ObamaCare. Recall that the GOP tossed away some victories in 2010 because some of their lame candidates foolishly went there.

Memo to GOP candidates everywhere: Never take the bait from the media about social issues, okay?

As Ann Coulter writes, "This is no time for another foot-in-the-mouth, Trent Lott Republican to be dominating the national political discussion. The country is at stake."

Coulter, who sometimes goes off the deep end herself, appropriately recalls the case of former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, who was railroaded by corrupt federal prosecutors to the detriment of the entire country:
U.S. Senator Ted Stevens was completely innocent of the crimes he was charged with – as we now know – but because he refused to withdraw from the senate race while he was under investigation in 2008, Republicans lost a sure Senate seat in that election. If Stevens had stepped aside and let another Republican run, Obamacare would not have become the law of the land.
That’s how important a single Senate seat can be.
The Missouri Senate election was destined to be an easy win for the GOP until this fool revealed himself to be a total loser. It's time for him to drop out and let a qualified viable candidate (perhaps Sarah Steelman who ran in the closely contested Republican primary) take over and defeat the very beatable Obama rubber stamp Claire McCaskill.

Elizabeth Warren, American Phony

Howie Carr has a great column about the millionaire Democrat one-percenter running against U.S. Senator Scott Brown in Massachusetts. But who knew the one percent may have also referred to her alleged heritage?
Elizabeth Warren, a 62-year-old Harvard Law School professor, seemed to have all the right stuff to regain the lost Senate seat of the late Ted Kennedy from Republican usurper Scott Brown...Yet her campaign is sputtering, as she slips on one banana peel after another. It’s turning out that she’s not quite the working-class heroine her worshipers in the limousine-liberal crowd thought she was.
Read the whole column here.

One of the commenters may have put his finger on where Warren gets her support:
My understanding is that most of Liz's Wall Street money is coming from NY lawyers who are looking forward to using her skills at designing regulatory red tape as a way of maintaining their litigation meal ticket. Quite a number of NY law firms seem to be in serious trouble, and there is a serious over-supply of lawyers, so they are looking to Big Government to maintain and grow their role as middlemen between those who do and those who regulate

ACORN's Friends

We've already mentioned in previous posts how the artist formerly known as Stuart Smalley likely owes his disputed U.S. Senate seat to ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune has more:
Here in Minnesota, ACORN has boasted of playing a major role in the 2008 elections. It claims to have registered 43,000 new voters, which it describes as 75 percent of the state's new registrations. Franken's margin of victory in the Senate race was razor-thin: 312 votes out of about 3 million cast. And Minnesota's laws on proof of voter eligibility are notoriously loose. Did ACORN folks pull some fast ones to help get their favorite son Franken elected -- a win that handed Democrats the 60-vote, veto-proof majority that they needed to enact their liberal agenda?
Secretary of State Mark Ritchie assures us that Minnesota's system of voter verification protects electoral integrity.
But here's an uncomfortable fact: Ritchie himself was endorsed by the now-notorious ACORN and elected with its help.
And the American Spectator is reporting that the corrupt community organization appears to have direct ties to the community organizer in chief:
Newly discovered evidence shows the radical advocacy group ACORN has a man in the Obama White House.
This power behind the throne is longtime ACORN operative Patrick Gaspard. He holds the title of White House political affairs director, the same title Karl Rove held in President Bush's White House.
Evidence shows that years before he joined the Obama administration, Gaspard was ACORN boss Bertha Lewis's political director in New York.
Recall that the president incredibly said on national TV that he was unaware that ACORN got much federal funding.

Schilling Out

As we predicted, former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has opted out of running for the open U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts.
