According an online poll of 9,000 New York Post readers, Casey Anthony is America's most hated person.

Casey Anthony, American's non-sweetheart, will have to show up in court as a defendant in a civil defamation case brought by nanny Zenaida Gonzalez because Gonzalez's team finally served her with the necessary legal papers.

The woman Casey Anthony falsely accused of abducting her doomed 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, tracked Anthony down to her Florida hideout and slapped her with a subpoena...Anthony, the most hated mother in America, was acquitted of murder last year — even after her lawyers admitted she made up the bogus “Zanny the Nanny” story...

Gonzalez’s investigators staked out Anthony’s new home for days, but their target refused to appear and be served with a subpoena, they said. Anthony’s lawyers eventually gave up and agreed to accept the court papers for the defamation lawsuit that is scheduled to begin next January in Orlando.

Anthony has a January 2013 trial date assuming there is no settlement or postponement.

Casey Anothony News: Defamation Trial Goes Forward

Here's the latest on Casey Anthony: After considering several motions, a Florida Judge has ruled that a civil lawsuit against her by Zenaida Gonzalez for defamation, i.e. character assassination, can proceed to trial early next year.

As the Orlando Sentinel reports, "Gonzalez claims that Anthony ruined her reputation in 2008 when she told authorities a babysitter with the same name kidnapped her 2-year-old daughter Caylee."

The case has a January 2013 trial date.

Date Rape Allegation by Casey Anthony

In newly released pre-trial depositions, America's non-sweetheart Casey Anthony claims that she became pregnant with her late daughter Caylee following what amounted to date rape at a 2004 party. Anthony told the court-appointed psychiatrist and psychologist (who never testified during the murder trial) that she was drugged and passed out at the party and has no idea who the father might have been.

Separately, the New York Post claims that Anthony wants to fire her lawyer Jose Baez because--get this--Baez is too much of a publicity hound to help her cash in on her fame:

Sources tell us Anthony is furious that Baez has been basking in the limelight and rubbing shoulders with top TV talent, but hasn’t nailed down a big interview deal for her.

Anthony is in hiding somewhere in Florida while serving a year of probation on an unrelated check fraud conviction.

More Legal Trouble for Casey Anthony

Casey Anthony, who was found not guilty on July 5 of her daughter's murder, has apparently not seen the last of the courthouse:

Casey Anthony is being sued for defamation by the man who discovered her 2-year-old daughter's body.

In a lawsuit filed [December 21], Roy Kronk accuses the Florida woman and and her lawyers of slanderously trying to shift the blame for Caylee Anthony's tragic death onto him, Reuters reported.

Kronk, a former meter reader, discovered Caylee's remains in the woods near Anthony's home in December 2008.

Another defamation case, brought by nanny Zenaida Gonzalez, is already pending against Anthony. In that case, a Florida judge ruled today that Anthony cannot be forced to testify while her criminal appeal on charges of lying to law enforcement (the only counts for which the jury convicted her in the murder case) is pending. The case is scheduled for trial in April.

Texas EquuSearch is also suing Anthony to recoup the costs of searching for Casey over five months.

Juror Names in Casey Anthony Murder Trial Released

Juror identities in high-profile cases are sometimes kept private out of concerns for death threats and other forms of intimidation or privacy violations. After waiting about 90 days for things to cool down, Judge Belvin Perry unsealed the names of the Casey Anthony jury yesterday. As the Tampa-area media reported, "The public outrage over the not guilty verdict sent some into a panic, many became prisoners in their own homes."

Since at least theoretically the judicial system should be about protecting people, why not keep the juror names under wraps permanently? And what business is it of the media (particularly the St. Petersburg Times newspaper which petitioned to have the names released) to force the jurors into the public domain? Judge Perry himself earlier stated that Florida's public record laws might be too broad in this regard.

In related news, another Florida judge will be deciding by the end of the month if Anthony's October 8 deposition in the pending civil defamation case can be released to the public in either transcript and/or video form. Anthony apparently wore some sort of disguise during the proceedings.

Casey Anthony Owes Florida $100K For Caylee Investigation

Judge Belvin Perry has ruled that Casey Anthony must reimburse the state of Florida nearly $100,000 to reimburse law enforcement agencies for the investigation into the disappearance of her daughter Caylee. Once again she got off lightly in that prosecutors and cops sought $500,000 in costs. In reaching his decision, Judge Perry determined that "the costs should cover only the period when detectives were investigating a missing person, and not the homicide investigation -- a sum of $97,676."

For security reasons, Casey Anthony will be serving one year of probation--possibly outside of Florida--for an unrelated check fraud charge in an undisclosed location according to FindLaw.com:

The Florida Department of Corrections will not be putting her photo and information on their website, and a judge has blocked public release of her personal information.

Judge Belvin Perry imposed the 12-month probation term earlier this month. Subsequently an appeals court ruled against Anthony's claim that she had already served her probation while she was in jail awaiting her murder trial, in which she was subsequently found not guilty.

Anthony secretly sat down with her probation officer on Wednesday and must meet with him in person once a month.

Casey Anthony Look-alike Nearly Killed in Road Rage Incident

Perhaps the security surrounding Casey Anthony's release from jail after being found not guilty in the death of Cayleee Anthony was justified. Recently, an Oklahoma convenience store clerk almost lost her life in a traffic crash merely because she looked like Casey Anthony. When this attack occurred, Anthony was still being held in Orange County (Fla.) jail.

The suspect who smashed into the Oklahoma woman's vehicle was charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
